With almost 8 billion people, we are reaching the limit of our planet's ability to provide two of the most fundamental resources - water and energy. We need to change the way we manage water and energy resources by choosing appropriate technologies and sites, by protecting the landscapes and waters that provide us with essential services, and by achieving public acceptance through minimal social and environmental impacts. This is an urgent challenge, and requires cooperative solutions among water and energy utilities, local communities, governments, financial institutions, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders.
